FYI, Just received the following, thank goodness for travel insurance as my trip (in September) will now be a day longer or a day shorter, AARGH!
This is the ferry from Dublin to Cherbourg.
Dear Iain
I am writing to inform you that unfortunately, due to extraordinary circumstances beyond our control, the delivery of the W.B. Yeats has been further delayed by German shipbuilders, FSG. Because of the uncertainty caused by this additional delay, Irish Ferries has no option but to cancel all of the planned sailings for W.B. Yeats to France this Summer, with the ship now likely to commence sailing with Irish Ferries on Dublin / Holyhead as scheduled in September.
We deeply regret that this delay has occurred and we would like to sincerely apologise to you for the inconvenience that it will inevitably cause you.
We would like to assure you that we are doing everything we can to try to minimise the disruption to your travel arrangements. In that regard, we have space on the Oscar Wilde close to your booking date.
If alternative travel on the Oscar Wilde does not suit, you will, of course, be entitled to a full and immediate refund of all monies paid. As a valued customer of Irish Ferries, we would also like to offer you a €150 electronic voucher which can be used at any time on our Ireland-France routes next year.
We will be in touch with you shortly to discuss which schedule change option will suit you best. In the meantime, if you have a query, please contact our Reservations Team on +353 (0) 818 300 400 or email us at [email protected].
Irish Ferries very much regrets these cancellations and sincerely apologises for the inconvenience.
Kind Regards,
Fekin Ferries

Re: Fekin Ferries
I don't think those great Irish writers would much like being used to name a couple of big smelly boats.
"There are no ferries here. Only sailings you have not yet met"
"The ferry company that dare not speak its name"

Re: Fekin Ferries
You have to laugh, when I checked some ferry sites were still taking bookings...., A quick call to the travel insurance claims line and I "should" (They never give much away) be covered for the disruption.
So, I will travel a day earlier, which means going down to Rosslare rather than Dublin, which means getting the 4am ferry to Larne, which is a tad early / late, but only an hour and a bit from home.
An extra night in France isn't to be turned down, and means I can meander a bit on leg 1 to Aubigny-sur-Nère where there is a Scottish Pub.
Always look on the bright side..

There’s a reason they say us Irish are stupid.... this confirms it.
I blame the Germans .... you can always blame them

Not at all.
The clever thing is selling tickets on a ferry you don't have.
The less clever thing is buying tickets on a ferry the ferry company doesn't have.
This has been brewing for quite a while but in fairness a €150 voucher for next year is a good bet. You can get a return to France for about €160 if you get your timing right.
I have travelled on the Oscar Wilde many times and its fine. However I live only 5 miles from the Cork ferry port so I tend to opt for the Cork Roscoff one.

Re: Fekin Ferries
Well that explains seeing an Irish Ferry with the bow doors removed at the shipbuilders in Flensburgh, Germany last Sunday week.
If any one is interested, I can recommend a good hotel in the centre of town, with parking and covered if you request in advance?

Can't say I see the logic in your first two observations, but then again I'm not Irish.92kk k100lt 193214 wrote: ↑Mon Jun 18, 2018 11:12 pmNot at all.

With my travel insurance covering the extra night and changes to the Larne ferry, buying tickets on a ferry the ferry company doesn't have.
. has worked out OK for me.
Yes, the voucher will be useful.

Re: Fekin Ferries
I reckon most will come out of this ok apart from some degree of inconvenience due a change of a day or two. Added to that a voucher that will quite possibly cover a trip to France next year.
Not such a bad deal.
Darn site better than you would get at Ryanair for sure.
Over the years I have found ferry companies a lot better to deal with than the likes of Ryanair.
