Fast run to Portugal

Post by Diesel Pete »

I will be getting the ferry to France late afternoon on Thursday 28th June so and need to be in Faro, Portugal no later than lunchtime on the following Monday

Can anyone recommend hotels near Calais for night one and where to stay en-route to Portugal? Camp sites or hotels are fine.

The route back will be more fun as will have a week to do it :)

Cheers

When you're in Spain if you just want somewhere cheap and convenient look out for a "Hostal" which is a basic roadside 2* hotel. They nearly always have a bar and restaurant attached. Room for one person around 25-30 euros will have small en-suite tv etc, nothing flashy but usually clean.

No need to plan or book ahead. If you're on a newish bit of motorway such as the A66 heading south from Salamanca then turn off and follow the old N630 which runs parallel and sooner or later you'll find a Hostal.

I can heartily recommend the Hostals...they are family-owned businesses which seem to combine the role of truckstop, budget hotel and village pub. Had a great conversation in one with a Spanish camionero...we were each only to understand technical terms...about the relative virtues of the Renault Magnum and the Pegaso Troner.

One of the best things about them is a complete lack of British idiot holidaymakers.
