Re: Route des grand ALPES
I,ve done it a few times over the years. Usually July when its busy. But also in September after the Bol d,Or when it is alot quieter. Wouldn,t go August because everyone is on holiday and all the hotels/campsites are rammed. Perfect time might be last week in June or first week in July and return by Route Napoleon. http://www.alpineroads.com/ will keep you right on road conditions if you go in June.

Re: Route des grand ALPES
Now in my planning stage for my trip along the route De grand ALPES ,
For you that have traveled the route how long did you take to do it .
I'll be traveling south from near Thonon le bains to Monaco area , I know it's not a great distance but I don't want to rush it .
Also any suggestions for accommodation along the route .
Thanks
Ian.

Re: Route des grand ALPES
I did Route Napoleon and Route des Grande Alps last year, albeit as a car trip and not on my bike (I know I know!). We also took in the Verdon Gorge on the way down (well worth it) and made a swerve into Italy on the way back to do the Colle del Nivolet - big detour but it had been on my hit list for a long time. I've a reasonably detailed itinerary of our route with stopovers & distances, happy to send it to you if it helps with your planning?
