East Anglia

Post by Spike941 »

Looking at visiting places I've yet to ride to. East Anglia is one such place. Is it worth it? Looking at some 2 day whistle stop biking trips for next spring, can anyone recommend roads to ride (tarmac) or places to visit over on the east coast?

Hi,i have lived in East Anglia since 1981 and i love Norfolk. Anywhere on the coast is worth visiting including Hunstanton,Wells,Cromer,Sheringham and in particular Blakeney. Bury St Edmunds is a lovely town and Norwich for a pub crawl is worth a mention. If you did wish to do any off roading in Norfolk and Suffolk it is all reasonably easy and doable on a big bike.

As Frenchy said anywhere along the coast road is beautiful, busy in the summer, not so much now, not always a fast road but some lovely villages and coastal views

Love Wells! went there for a recent weekend away and there were pirates everywhere!!! not just dress up but some really serious costumes around, apparently it goes on every year! thought it was all a bit weird at first but ended up on Saturday night pissed as a pirate singing sea shanties in the bowels of the Dutch barge moored up on the quayside, oh and not a health and safety notice in sight!!! if you've been on that ship you'll know what i mean lol.... ah the good old days!!! Aaaarrrrggghhh! The North Norfolk coast is stunning with some great riding roads and well worth a two day excursion.

Depending on where you are coming from I would advise you get to Kings Lynn and head up the coast from there towards Hunstanton.
Carry on the coast road and it will take you through some lovely seaside villages and towns like Cley next the sea, Wells, Stifkey etc. Personally I love Cromer and there's a lovely little café on the front called the Blue Sky café. We always stop there for a coffee.
As someone has mentioned give Great Yarmouth a wide berth unless you like chav city. It's horrible, carry on down the coast and stop at Southwold which is very nice as well.
Not particularly fast roads and can have loads of farmers shite on them at certain times but a really nice days ride out.

I too have a hankering for a bimble around Suffolk, Lovejoy/Constable country, perhaps we can do it about three weeks apart!
