Ok, only done that area once or twice

It was shite for biking, all the lakes are busy and a bit like the Lake District

Only spent a few days based in Cannobio but while we where there took the SP75 out the back of the town and then the SS337 to the end and then North on the SS659 up to the Cascata del Toce (highest waterfall in EU??).
Twists and turns all the way including an amazing corkscrew tunnel, beyond the falls the road continues onto a strange moon like plateau.....certainly in my top five rides!
We also took the ferry (which is stunning sat out in the middle of the lake surrounded by mountains) from Intra-Laveno and then carried on to Lake Varese. Then came round the South side, again great roads but busy!
Also at the top of Maggiore you have the tallest dam in EU, the one from a bond movie?, we missed that as we only found out about it the week after!!! Loads of tunnels on the West side with galleries but also some wacky under ground junctions/inter sections.
Enjoy
Too many Cagiva Elefants, Gran Canyons and Ducatis!
Azzalin SP and various others.

Go to local shop
Buy local map
Follow squiggly lines
Bit old fashioned but it works

It's getting increasingly difficult to find decent paper maps "locally" these days.

Tourist offices will have local maps, usually with more details.

Yes great if you want to visit waterparks, model railways and tea rooms.
I think Mike's after some decent biking roads (thumbs)
