Camping in Northumbria

Post by howlingmoon »

Hi All.
Hoping to spend a week in July {when the weathers a bit warmer/drier)in and around
Alnwick and surrounding areas. I'm struggling to find somewhere, any recommendations required for campsites in Northumbria that allow camp fires if possible and are bike friendly.
Much obliged.

Just a couple of mils past Bamburgh at Budle Bay there is a site that allows fires.
Up side/down side depending on your requirements, it's miles from the pub, chemical bogs(sometimes no bogs)
Literally just a field with a tap that the farmer lets you camp in. It's surprisingly popular.
You can't book, just turn up.

I lived in the area for years, mainly in Alnmouth on the coast. I've seen folk camp on Alnmouth beach or behind the dunes by the beach. You can park your bikes very near on the roadside, there are several decent pubs in Alnmouth and places to eat if you don't fancy cooking and campfires are allowed on the beach - plus there's usually plenty of driftwood to collect for firewood. Had many fires/barbecues on Alnmouth beach when my kids were younger - nothing beats it on a warm summer's evening with a cold beer or a glass of red! In fact, I'm quite envious!

There is Whinshields on Hadrians wall near the once / twicebrewed pub.
All basic facilities and a cracking pub.
No fire though.
