I learnt that 2 weeks away at a time is not enough and that I need to retire sooner rather than later somewhere in the Aude area of France.

There is no need to go to far off places for excitement.

Try the M25 and anywhere inside the M25 circle. Anybody living in this area wants the head testing. What a bloody awful part of the country. It took well over three hours to get from the A21 clockwise to the M40.

Things I learnt this year:

This is the first year I've been away on the bike and stayed in one place for a week, its not really for me. I prefer mounting up each morning and moving on.

I like riding without a sat nav.

Stopping for a quick dip in a lake is my new hobby.

I love a challenge, visiting lots of castles, that sort of thing.

Like minded bikers are a pleasure to ride with off road. On the road I prefer solo.
And now, Harry, let us step out into the night and pursue that flighty temptress, adventure.

Never used a sat nav!! Still have always managed to find my way.

That is always nice to find friendly bikers....just came off a cross over ferry down at Waterford on way over to Hook Head, having a coffee when a few guys who travelled down from Northern Ireland heading for Wild Atlantic Way turned up for the ferry. Had a nice chat while they waited for the ferry back.

this was my first year having a proper look at the picos, and the ferry to santander, you could do this on a long weekend, which we have booked again for june
Same for us with the picos Steve, hopefully we'll be back there next September.

I learnt I do actually like camping if I have the right gear.
I now know the reason why everyone buys BMW GSAs, they're fantastic.
Heated clothing, where the hell have you been all my life? Makes riding in 5 degrees seem like a summer day.
When you go away touring with friends there will always be compromises. You just have to roll with it.

Take less kit, avoid targets and try to eat a meal cooked by someone else every day.

That if you're going to have a drama, make sure you are anywhere but Switzerland. A drama in Africa is more preferable, and significantly cheaper to sort.
