Re: Novice c90 rider, 500 miles, can't keep up!
Sorry it's been over 4 months since I last posted!
Anyway a little info on the trip and how it went....
A few months before the trip I was chatting with Bernard about a c90 trip, me already have done some miles on a c90 I was very keen to do more, there's something so simple and fun flying around the highlands on a 90cc bike.. Well mine a 110 but still a small bike non the less,
A few weeks later Mr smiths send me a massage on facebook with the words it's mine baby.. And a picture of a lovely low mileage Honda c90!
So that's that then I have not only convinced Bernard smith that it was a good idea to ride a small cc bike over 500 miles but he has gone and bought a c90 that I think is great success!
Here's a pic his Nobal steed that will carry him on this epic but small adventure... Or will it....

Re: Novice c90 rider, 500 miles, can't keep up!
So the time has come for the trip to begin... At the point I should say that Bernard has never ridden a c90... I know right rode all over the world but never op been on a c90, well that's not true the last time he rode one round my garden he fell of doing a donut.. Anyway that's a different story.
So mr smiths arrives at my house in thurso (20 miles from johnOGroats) the evening before, we did plan to do the orkney island but we decided to do the newly famous NC500.. For those who have not heard or done it, it's a route around the north highlands and it's epic you must try it!
Back to c90s I had done the NC500 previously on the c90 and was itching to get going again!
We sat that night chatting about bikes and life in general while have a few tins.. Well Bernard was...
The next morning packed and ready to rock I said my good byes to my lovely misses as we head off out the drive for a long weekend of fun booze and laughter,
First 5 miles we took it steady as it was Bernard's first ride loaded up on a c90, but after that there was no stopping him he was off!
I asked him when we stopped for our a coffee at our first stop in tounge, had he checked anything on the bike oil etc, he replied no I just stuck fuel in it and set off... Haha I like his style, luckily there was oil in it! I had checked the night before hand.
Back on the bikes and we headed for durness for a few pics and more coffee and first stop for fuel
We did have petrol cans with us for back up as the tank only dose about 80/90miles until it runs dry but at around £3.50 to fill who cares lol
Back on the road we head down the west coast to scourie for our first night camp.

Re: Novice c90 rider, 500 miles, can't keep up!
The next morning we packed up early and got back on the road heading to Ullapool for our first stop and fuel for us and the bikes.. It was a steady ride down.. Well so I thought
I had noticed over the last day how fast Bernard could get the little bike round them bends! Now I know it's a little bike and we can all ride a c90 but to say he has only been on it a day I was impressed, so impressed that I wouldn't keep up I had fitted my bike with a Chinese 110 engine mainly just for the extra gear so helps on the hills, but Bernard had the standard 90cc engine and he was flying along at one point I was doing over 50mph off the clock and still couldn't catch him! After trying for about 50 miles I gave up and finally ran out of fuel about 4 miles north of Ullapool... Damn I have fuel in a can but no funnel to fill it up... Don't worry my new c90 buddy will come back once he noticed am not behind him...
Ermm no I waited for about 5 minutes.. No show so I looked around for a plastic bottle that someone had left in the grass!!! I made a make shift funnel filled up packed up and set off to Ullapool where Bernard was just sat at the side of the road smiling... Thanks for waiting I said, no problem he replied and we headed off for coffee...

Re: Novice c90 rider, 500 miles, can't keep up!
I think it was down to the rider, for one Bernard has a lot more miles under his belt than me and is a lot lighter haha
The honda engine and the lifan110 are about the same speed on the flat it's just the 110.has the 4th gear which helps on pulling
