The ferry is booked 31st
The 990 engine is on the bench waiting for parts
Got no chance with bank holiday upon us ,i`ve a van and a 525 exc
What are your thoughts on vanning the 525 to Newhaven catching the ferry on the 525 to Dieppe and riding to my caravan 270 miles using N and D roads like i do on the 990 ?

Whyever not?

Although a big bike is nice as one who toured on a 125 many moons back I have to say you can travel on any kind of 2 wheels big or small and really enjoy it.

Get the 525 sorted and go for it!. Something a bit lighter thrown around N and D roads can be real fun. No reason to van it as far as the ferry either.

Change the gearing and you are good to go. Clive has done similar on a 200exc all be it a shorter distance, soft luggage and a heat shield

Trail / Enduro bikes on twisty roads are the most fun and 270 miles is a very doable distance in a day.
