Personal Travel Insurance that covers using a bigger bike than 125cc

Post by wheelbothends »

Checking my just expiring Travel Insurance for me and Herself and find that Rock Insurance seem to have quietly withdrawn cover for touring sized bikes.

They used to offer cover up to 1500cc and I've used them for the last couple of years.

Anyone got any recommendation/suggestions for decent cover?

Try PJ Hayman. Probably not the cheapest but you are covered for what you want.
Very quick and easy to arrange. Annual or single trip. Worldwide cover if required.

The AA will cover you to ride any bike you would be licensed to ride in the UK.I paid about £14 for single trip European cover but they also do annual and worldwide.I've never had to make a claim though.

Is it your own bike being used as your means of travel? If so why should you not get the same cover as you would if driving your own car? Our Directline travel insurance covers us when touring on our own bike 1200cc.
If you are flying and renting then it is treated as an excursion and as such the 125 cc maximum applies.
Open your eyes and you see what is in front of you, open your mind and you see a bigger picture but open your heart and you see a whole new World.

I used these in 2014 as many bike policies were the 125cc maximum type but their policy had a restriction that allowed you to ride only the same size engine as your uk license.
I will be using them again this weekend for another trip to Norway

MOTORCYCLE TRAVEL INSURANCE POLICIES

All our travel insurance policies will cover you for on-road motorcycling, with no cc restrictions, as long as you hold a FULL licence to be riding a bike of that size in your home country, and wear a crash helmet (even if local law doesn’t insist on it). On road motorcycling does not necessarily have to be a tarmac road, but the road must be what passes for the road locally and all “normal” traffic should be able to use it, including cars. If a four-wheel-drive or truck is required to negotiate the road, then you require off-road cover (see MOTORCYCLE SILVER and MOTORCYCLE GOLD policies below). It all gets a bit confusing, as we offer so many different policies, so we have detailed the scope of cover offered by the various policies below:
