Hi guys.....relocating to the USA and thinking of taking my bike instead of selling it before leaving and buying something else there.
I have heard that registering your bike there is a pain in the butt in terms of complying with the American emissions and safety requirements.
Any thoughts would be appreciated...thanks!
Taking bike to the USA
Re: Taking bike to the USA
what kinda bike is that? is this is some of the models they sell in US as well there will be no problem. Also the most restrictive is only California, in rest of the states you can register pretty much anything smoking. They still use carburetors there... :sick:Richard Green wrote:Hi guys.....relocating to the USA and thinking of taking my bike instead of selling it before leaving and buying something else there.

The EPA is your nemesis.
They are a PITA and you are almost certainly better off selling and buying the same bike cheaper in the US.

I understand that you can take a bike into the US as a tourist, but only for 12 months and it is supposed to be exported at the end. There is some basic paperwork involved

Re: Taking bike to the USA
US forces get away with it --but thats it--I had a BMW R1100S and it was exactly the same as the US version--apart from side reflectors on the forks--but it was so difficult that I sold it and bought over there--dollar price (in numbers)=pound price (in numbers) here so its a lot cheaper to buy. Just do your best to get proof of insurance no claims and try State Farm--and if you have a US driving licence then its easy--but the tests are also easy--I did both car and bike in the US.
