Manx Ferrys!! OMG ££££
Just looking at a family camping trip this summer, and thought - never been to the Isle of Man before - that could be fun...
Looked to see how much taking x2 adults and x2 kids in x1 car would cost - cheapest I can get is over £300 return on the Ferry!! Jeeebers!
We went to Holland, overnight, with a dinner, bed and breakfast with P&O for £375 a few weeks ago!!
Blimey!

That is expensive. We have booked for the IOM TT and for rider and bike I think it's costing us £239.00, granted it's the TT week but all the same.
We have booked Rosslare to Cherbourg returning Cherbourg to Dublin in Aug. Total cost for bike,2 up with a cabin out and a cabin back for £230.00.
I know it's to do with supply and demand for the TT but it's hard to swallow when you can get to France return for 2 people and bike with cabin for less that a few hours across the Irish sea!

No the TT is in June, I was just saying how expensive the ferry is and now you have just proved it's expensive all the time. (thumbs)
As geordiegraham said they don't call them the Steam Racket Company for nothing lol

Manx GP starts 20th August
Its not cheap; however I suppose the demand is never there unless it is the TT or GP so taking into account operating cost's and low numbers and no competition we will always pay too much I suppose.
I paid £169 back in 2006 for the ManxGP, My ferry to France the same year was £39

I have also done Isle of Man and one year they wanted £800 for a week in October. Just for the ferry.
It is a lovely quaint place and I took the family over to the GP one year for a camping holiday and to be honest we did really enjoy it. There is a very good leisure complex and the steam trains are brilliant. Add the Lady Isabella, Douglas Promenade, Motorcycle Museum and the racing they wont be bored.
However from kids perspective France beats all, a four star camp site with the water features will amaze kids, but those camp sites are not cheap either. You do make it back in the fact that everything else is good value.
I still go to France camping but it's now with bike buddies instead of the kids and the municipal camp sites are a bargain. 2 weeks in France, ferry AND camp site fees worked out at €175 and add a bottle of wine at night for €2-3.......

It's supply and demand, plus what happens when you have a monopoly. I paid £94 return in March for me and the bike, still not cheap for a 3.5 hour trip. It's the competition that keeps the cross channel prices down.

Recently I went to France from Plymouth to Toscoff. Car and driver for 6 days return fare £355. And you think you have it bad? :S
