Me and a mate did it a few years ago to attend a mates wedding. Left Berkshire about 1030pm on a Friday night and walked into the hotel on Malta at midnight on the Wednesday. Took the Channel Tunnel, down through France to our first stop in Besancon. On to Genoa for the next night and then just outside Rome for the following night. Took the ferry from Naples Tuesday afternoon and arrived in Palermo first thing Wednesday morning. Spent the day riding across Sicily and took the fast cat ferry from Pozallo on the south of the island about 9.30pm, arriving in Valetta at 11pm.

Great trip, avoided all motorways apart from the those in northern France to kill a few miles.

Just a couple of things though;

1. If you think the traffic in Rome is bad just wait until you get to Naples. My mate narrowly missed being t-boned by a dickhead that didn't stop........still fell off as he swerved to avoid the car though.
2. If you get caught wheeling out of the port at Palermo by the port Police just grin and apologise.........it worked for my mate.
3. Beware the potholes in Naples.........my mates luggage on his GS bounced off down the road!

........it was quite an eventful trip for my mate
