going to Romania in July

Post by robson »

Hi,
Planning to go there this summer with pillion and wonder if you can give me any tips
about lodging, weather etc in that time. Is tent needed just in case?
Is it safe to camp in wild?

on a solo trip a few years ago there did a little wild camping also was invited to stay with a family on a farm only stopped to look at the map outside their yard, great experience bbq in the evening over a few beers they warned me against rough camping- bears and wolves! I had no probs depends on the extent of the adventure you want I expect.
Interesting country a little different to more western areas sure your expecting that, on a more recent trip as a group stayed a couple of nights in prebooked accomodation, good with one very memorable evening. sure you would have little trouble if you follow usual advice look early, smaller towns etc, if you choose to wing it-IMO best way.
Enjoy

Went through there a couple of years ago. Mixed feelings about the place. People very friendly and everything very cheap, but very dirty, rubbish everywhere. Some stunning roads and scenery. If you want to camp for free in a monastery, PM me and I'll show you where it is. They should feed you and water you for free, all you have to do in return is sit through morning mass the next day. Part of their religious stuff is to help travellers and motorcyclists count!
Well worth a visit.

I went there last year and wild camped everywhere and loved every second of it - (Romania in my profile picture) and had no trouble. REALLY friendly people with the occasional Romany gypsies hassling me. I was there beginning of July and it was really warm - about 35C. I cannot wait to go back

Virtually the same for me. Very clean except for a park the gypsies trashed, then the locals chased them off and cleaned it up.
The Carpathians are lovely, try to do the Transfagarasan. Very pretty German looking churches in the villages and the beer and food are wonderful. Good people, good roads, lots of people speak English.
Hotels are cheaper than campsites!

Been riding out there a couple of times people a very friendly wild camping is accepted the locals do it to get out the cities at the weekend. Land access is not a problem as long as you don't go riding through a crop.

The country is covered in carootza trails from village to village or up to high pastures, check out Enduromania.net, Sergio set it up after communism fell to try and create tourism and generate an income for locals.
