Places to Escape to for a night

Post by cadoganpier »

Like many, I suspect, occasionally I just need to get away from it all. I am looking for places I can get too from Newbury for an overnight. I like wild camping and am not looking at more than 150 miles each way, any ideas gratefully received .
Thanks.

My Wales knowledge is limited compared to a lot of people on here but the triangle of land between Brecon/Llandovery/Rhayader has some great roads and awesome scenery (thumbs) .

Or just south of Brecon and your very, very quickly into the mountains (Brecon Beacons)...such as The Gap, Corn Du, Pen Ye Fan etc...again, awesome scenery (thumbs) .

Scott rider is spot on, free camping can be had anywhere in those areas if you're discreet the Breconshire National Park forbids it but there are plenty of places that they do not bother with. Failing that Rhayader is a great base, cheap legit camping and the Elan vally to explore. If that is too far for you, get over the old severn bridge and exit at Chepstow, ride the Wye valley to Monmouth, then Abergavenny on the A40 to Brecon, loads of places to stay and eat. PM me if you want anymore info ?
