Bar in Montenegro to Sarajevo route info needed.

Post by dubber68 »

I am currently planning next years jolly and would like to include the route from Bar to Sarajevo which goes through the Black mountains and Tara gorge. If you have any details or GPX files it would be much appreciated.

Planning this trip is really getting me excited.

My only experience in this area is Sarajevo to Dubrovnik via Mostar but there's a thread going on the HUBB at the moment from a chap who's in the Balkans now. It's on its 11th or 12th page and has loads of photo's as well as a good text, worth a read in my opinion.

Will try and send you the gpx file of part of my route (travelling in the opposite direction) from this summer if it helps...as soon as I can get it to attach!

Ignore my detour to Bijelo Polje (just poking around).

The area around Podgorica wasn't overly exciting to be honest.

The best part was the route alongside Pivsko Lake (Jezero), and through Durmitor National Park - the snow was 6 foot high either side of the road in June!

Be aware - round the lake there are dozens of unlit tunnels cut into the rock - not all of which are straight or particularly wide.

The views are stunning however which makes up for the close calls.

I'm planning on going in May so snow could be an issue. Thanks for the help.

Another try

EDIT: haha, useless

Anyone got any suggestions? - I've had enough trouble posting photos before, putting a gpx. file on here looks impossible for my little brain!

I have sent you a PM with my email on it. Thanks for trying so hard. I have been on the HUBB and subscribed to a number of threads about the area and have learnt a lot. May could be a little early though.

I would be interested in what you come up with. Went to Croatia this year and intend to return next as it needed a lot more time than we had. I will send over the little bits I have at some point. B)

Yeah my plan was to include it as part of a longer ride but it seems it deserves longer than I was planning to do. Probably just a taster session for me this time.
