Re: Budapest, the long way round.
I suppose it's because I've done it many times in my campervan and have had one or two incidents. Nothing serious but enough to keep me awake for sometime. I presume that when you do it with the bike you can get off the beaten path to somewhere that's more isolated?captinktm wrote:Why are you concerned about wild camping, I do nothing else, what are you worried about?nickoff wrote:Thanks for the information and your very kind offer captinktm. The reason that I am going down to the bottom of France and over the Alps is because the gps co- ordinates on the bodywork of the Transalp are for the Col de la Bonnette Pass and I would like to take the bike "home" I am a little concerned about "wild camping" on my own but if need be I will.captinktm wrote:Well if then come down through Serbia and into Bulgaria up through Romania (you said the long way round) look us up. We have a spare bed and a garage for the stead. Other point, I never worry about camp sites at all at 5 ish I simply pull off the main road and find a quiet spot. Never been hassled of moved on in any European country yet!

Re: Budapest, the long way round.
The trick on the bike is to turn off the main road (or the road you're on) and take a side road and then turn off that to camp-that way you're off the radar. I take a camo'd bike cover to blend in with the countryside, result an undisturbed night's sleep
Re: Budapest, the long way round.
Bernard, I've been in touch with the owner of the Bikers Camp, Budapest and have booked in for 3 nights. Good price and location. Thanks for telling me about it.Bernard Smith wrote:BTW - there's a campsite in Budapest - look up bikers camp. (thumbs)

Re: Budapest, the long way round.
I was there last year for the Sziget music festival all week. It's a great city and so inexpensive. Think I may go to the festival again for a couple days.Phil wrote:im going in August too. not by bike though, heard very good things about Budapest...cant wait.

Re: Budapest, the long way round.
Been to Budapest loads of times, my son was there in college for 6 years. Niece is there now too. Its a fabulous city, a lot to see and inexpensive too.
I have driven over too. If you are doing the drive motorway tolls in France are savage, cheaper to land as far east as you can.
