I'm giving it a miss next year and going to the rally at Augustusburg Castle a couple of weeks earlier. I've never been to this one but I keep being told how good it is so nothing ventured nothing gained (thumbs)

Must admit I absolutely loved the insanity that resulted from the booze, fireworks, illegal bikes and general horseplay.
There were lots of huge tents full of patch club types but last time I had to camp right behind one and, worried about being used as a toilet during the weekedn decided to introduce myself. This had the desired effect and I made some new friends.
They didn't wee on me either :D

On the other hand; I had ridden my bike to get there and it is a bit sad to people turn up in vans etc.

I guess it's a nightmare for the organisers though. I'm surprised its taken so long to change the rules.

It's a bit sketchy but this gives the dates and where it is.

http://translate.google.co.uk/translate ... rev=search

We always used to meet up with the same group from Frankfurt when we did the Elefant and they used to say we should go but going away for a week at a time twice in January would be pushing my luck a bit so this year the Elefant goes out of the window and this one comes in.

You're more than welcome to come with us if you want. I'll be going from Harwich on the Tuesday night then a couple of us are visiting Colditz before going on to the rally. If we can we'll be arriving at the rally on the Thursday afternoon to make a proper weekend of it then head home on Sunday with an overnight stop somewhere along the way before catching the Monday night sailing from the Hook of Holland.

I've got to add that Mark R has prioritised work over entertainment so we won't have to wait until he can walk in a straight line before setting off for home but there's still time for him to reconsider.....

I have to admit I was very disappointed upon arrival at this years Elefantentreffen. After riding for 2 days to find a field full of cars & vans and an endless procession of non motorcycle types carrying their gear to the field. Maybe I didn't know what I wanted to find, perhaps it was too insane for my disposition. The new regs, if they work, would allow a revisit
Luckily Silverfox & myself were befriended by 3 Italian guys who roasted a suckling pig over an open fire. We were invited to join them for the feast and it really made the event for me.
I don't wish to dampen anyone's lure for the event, it's nuts - go and experience

You must have gone to the one at the Nurburgring then because cars and vans don't get within two miles of the site at Solla.

It's got to be pretty obvious that anyone rocking up with a suckling pig hasn't taken it on a motorbike and even though they may have taken it in a sidecar you've got to question what their motivation for going to the rally is? I'd sooner go on a bike and survive on what I can carry than go for the marquee and hog roast approach because it just seems to be missing the point a bit.

I love going to the Elefantentreffen but I'm not convinced that the people treating it as a party where you can attend in a car or a van as long as you look like a biker and drink until you puke will be reading the BVDM website and picking up on the fact that they're not welcome any longer B)

If the organisers stick to their guns it'll be a rocky ride for a year or two while they fight off the muppets but I'm sure it'll survive and will be a better rally for it long term.
