Don't fancy the ferry ? Don't fancy the ride down ?
Re: Don't fancy the ferry ? Don't fancy the ride down ?
I could spend a day looking at that site. I'm not some train spotter but I do fancy a train holiday. Just get on a train with the vague of idea of getting to, say, Montenegro or Morocco and seeing how it goes.
Anyway, the page for Motorail is http://www.seat61.com/Motorail.htm

It's a great great site. I was looking at the possibility of motorail to Erdine for future but loads of other good info on it.

may be a good way for some to get to the HISS, personally I find ferries absolutely boring so I'll be looking at a train down

Seat 61 is the definitive rail page - I think it's won numerous awards down the years - I wish I'd thought of it first

Re: Don't fancy the ferry ? Don't fancy the ride down ?
Sam Manicom put me onto a company called FlyBikeFly for a project I'm involved in organising, which might offer an alternative if you've only got a couple of weeks holiday.
They offer a bike shipping service but you just ride your fully loaded bike to one of their depots, strap it into their special transport cradle and leave it. They load it on one of their regular shuttle lorries and take it to either Nice or Malaga. You hop on a cheap flight to either, get a taxi to their depot and ride off. Then you just repeat the process to get back.
Total cost for the return trip £495, which didn't seem bad to me.

Why not just fly and rent a bike or car once there? All this putting bikes on planes, trains and trailers unnecessarily, does not makes you an 'Adventure' Biker I'm afraid. (thumbs)

Do people actually care whether they get labelled "adventure Biker" ? I for one have never really cared what people like to label me. If a plane, train, trailer, motorhome or any other conveyance allows me to get somewhere I could not get to in the time given or for any other restraints then I would be happy to use them and quite happy to for go the "Adventure biker" label as I think it's a load of crap in the first place.utaka wrote:Why not just fly and rent a bike or car once there? Jesus I'm getting old I remember the time people got on bikes and nodded to each and was pleased to see another "biker" it seems now a days unless your wearing the right "Label" your not in the gang
