Places to visit France

Post by gebrauchtwagen83 »

Hi chaps and chapesses,
Just wondered if anyone had any recommendations for good stuff to see in France as I'm leaving Barcelona on the gs on Tuesday. Allowed plenty of time to see things so any recommendations would be much appreciated. I don't want to deviate too much from the general route from Barcelona to Calais. 1st stop the medieval town of carcassone.
Thanks in advance

If you've not been before Oradour sur Glane is a must visit place.

Great ride up from Carcassonne to Millau which is a pleasant town with a spectacular bridge, go to the visitors centre but riding over the bridge is not essential. Then head up the Gorges du Tarn - allow enough time as it's a slow road. Florac at the east end of the gorges is a nice place to stay. Leaving Florac make sure you go over the plateau and head for Rodez which is another Roman town. If you have time visit Conques and Rocamadour. Head for Sarlat (along the Dordogne river valley and then Montignac which is a beautiful town on the Vezere river. After Montignac take the D704 to Limoges. If you can avoid Limoges itself and head for Oradour sur Glane. Heading north the chateaux at Azay le Rideau and Villandray in the Loire valley are worth a visit.

try and see the Verdon Gorge its spectacular, and was the best part of our European tour this year only good weather we had was in south of France it poured rain all the way down and we had minus 1 and snow in Austria then it poured rain all the way back through Germany to near Amsterdam on the way home . It didn't help much to phone home and hear they were having barbeques either , this was end of May beginning of June
enjoy your trip
regards

This place is well worth stopping off at http://www.manoir-automobile.fr/welcome/index.php

..makes Beaulieu look tiny..it even has its own race circuit as well being the home of French rallycross...
Cheap to get in ( around e8) and even has a nice restaurant bar at very reasonable prices

I was at Carcassonne last September. There were twin sisters dressed up in medieval dresses, they looked like the brunette princess in Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure. Total babes :P

Ripol-Puigcerda-Ax Le Thermes-Quillan-Carcassonne is a good route.
