hi all, newbie here, thinking of doing a tour of north america, canada/usa in 2014, maybe
4-6 months, question is, is it better to buy a bike there and sell when done with it? and how do you go on with insurance. I have family in canada if that helps but obviously I`m not a resident.ta!

Hi Tony, done quite a bit there myself and always shipped my own bike. Not sure where you are in the world but at Adventure Bike Warehouse in Manchester this Saturday afternoon. Sgt Bilko of this parish is chatting about USA travel and shipping your own bikes etc. Could be right up your alley!

There's a site for bike swaps... you ride their's over there and they ride your's over here. Forget the name but google is your friend.
Also try BMW MOA see if anyone has a bike you could "borrow".

Starts about 2ish but you are welcome to come earlier for a bowl of Chilli and a waffle abut bikes

Mike O's the man to talk to a few years back he did a 6 month trip round
The States and did a fantastic RR on the UKgser.
That's not to say others may have similiar experience of the states

For the time you will be there, the best thing is to ship your own bike. Buying and selling one is fraught with potential pitfalls and of course there is nothing like riding your own bike on a big trip
