Something to do over Xmas

Post by Sukahutan »

I have two weeks off over Xmas and the New Year and would like to get away on an organised enduro trip, ideally Asia but would consider anywhere. I've searched the internet but not found anything as of yet. Anyone with any suggestions, please?

It's not Asia I know but have a look at my thread about our Patagonian trip earlier this year viewtopic.php?f=21&t=48609

We did a three week trip but as I mention in the thread, I'm certain that you could do a worthwhile trip in two weeks covering bits of the Careterra Austral, Ruta 40 and all the out of the way places in between. Have a look at http://motorentadventure.com/en/

KTM 1290 Super Adventure T - Power!
KTM 690 Enduro R - lighter to pick up
Husqvarna Svartpilen 401 - Fun.

Even our dogs are orange.

Only bikers understand why dogs put their heads out of car windows.

The last few years I have spent substantial time in the Philippines on a building project and whilst I have personally not done a organised enduro trip I do ride off road often, I here that a lot of tourists use these guys http://motorbikephilippines.com/enduro-tours-asia/ but you would have to do a fair bit of review checking for yourself as I would never recommend a service unless I had actually done it myself.

I find that the Philippines is more varied and certainly not as commercial as say Thailand so it comes down to what you want and expect from a trip. You can fly from Heathrow to Manila direct with Pal Airways, sometimes for a very reasonable price around December, after the first week of Jan it increases due to the amount of festivals there such as Ati Atihan for example.

Pro's:::: I would say is that even with the crap Pound you will get a lot for your money, internal travel in the country is very cheap including local taxis and tricycles, unlike what I have found with Thailand and esp within Chaing Mai where the "tourist tax" is blatant to the point of absurd.

Accomodation is cheap and Booking.com will have you covered with a majority of places willing to have a deal with you if you call them directly.

It is off the beaten track, it certainly is not the most obvious choice off the bat.

Locals are very friendly.

Con's:: The food is no where near as varied as say Thailand or Vietnam, due to the lower tourist count than some hot spots in Asia you need to be a bit patient sometimes when dealing with basic matters such as paperwork.

Do not mess around with ANY drugs when you are there, they have a nationalist and what would be classed as right wing leaning Government, penalties would be severe!!!! :o .

Not a con as such but make sure you get a International driving permit (for where ever you go) only about 5 quid from post office and you need the form "1968" for the Philippines, other countries can be found here https://www.gov.uk/driving-abroad/inter ... ing-permit
Even though I hold a local licence I have never been questioned if I give my UK one over.

Asia can be very very wet and absurdly hot, pick your riding equipment with care!!!! :? ,

Failing all that I hear Marocco offers great opportunities year round and I believe there are multiple operators running trips?..,

Regards
