WillS wrote: ↑Sun Sep 08, 2019 6:39 pm Long way down, certainly got me back into bikes, especially Adventure Bikes and Touring.
So if it's on a Free TV Chanel or YouTube will definatley be watching it.
Good luck to them,.
Not sure how many years it will be before we are riding the trails around Sort Catalonia on Electric Bikes.
Anyway on the 22nd Sept will definatley be Petrol. Braaaaaap !!!
Wills , you could do it right now. Most of our days out in Catalonia involve about 80kms. There's a handful of off-road bikes capable of it on one charge. I am just waiting for a little more and I'll happily swap to electric. Anyway it's not about being a 'petrolhead' or whatever, it's about being a 'powerhead'. Electric has all the advantages except outright range right know, so it's just a a matter of time...
The electric VTT bikes have come a long way, and also the technology on battery / power for larger motocycles is progressing.
Would be very interesting to try one, like a 250 equivalent if you can make 100 - 150 km then it's a possibility. Then a re charge overnight at the campsite.

No doubt it will come in a few years, but think it may be after my time on bikes.
For this year in Sort will be the trusty CRF250L again.

Well, I certainly did not see that coming!!!!...

I personally have zero issues with what bike they use but for me electric motorcycles are still a generation away from where I could afford and justify one, I am not sure how much the regular punter on the street will relate to it?.

I was working in the trade when Long Way round came out and it converted a whole generation to Adventure bikes, it created a whole industry, Revit the clothing company for example made their name in this sector of the market with their adventure inspired ranges and companies like Touratech went from niche specialist to a must have product over night. Not to mention the copious amounts of people that started to head off solo or with all singing and dancing world touring companies, I would hate to guess the amount of money that came into the industry because of them?, from the mid 2000s I was kitting out and setting up folks heading off on proper full blown trip almost daily..

It certainly could very well be a massive trigger in electric motorcycle manufacturing for the masses if the public interest is there, but who knows?, different times, far more contributors in the motorcycle travel sector and doubtful it will be anywhere near as game changing as the first one. But I hope to be proven wrong!!!!

I really hope they go back to the bare bones type of approach, two mates on a bike trip...

Hmm,

I'm less interested in watching a road trip than I am an "adventure" trip.

Half of the fun of the previous series was the uncertainty of the terrain challenges. I'm a bit worried that the main drama on this series will be related to battery life....

Oh well, will have to wait & see - fingers crossed I'm pleasantly surprised!

It would of been interesting if they had another couple of petrol driven bikes with them so at the end of trip do a fair comparison on the electric Vs petrol bike.
Carbon footprint
Break downs
Down time for recharging.
Ease of being able to find refueling/ recharging points

That sort of thing.
Overall looking forward to it.
Just hope Ewan leaves the wife at home and Charlie leaves Russ at home. ðŸĪŠðŸĪ”😃

Ewan and his misses had a public break up last year I think.... Russ grew on me from watching the series Charley did "By any means", but certainly want to see more of the guys stuff than the support crew..

Any news if Claudio is the Cameraman??...

Would love to have another twist in the story and have Guy Martin come along for the trip, honestly I would pay a decent sum of money to watch that!!!!!....

Hell I would love to watch a Guy Martin RTW trip full stop...

Its obviously part of an advertising campain to try to sell more electric bikes.
Just ignore what bikes they are on and enjoy the journey.

My understanding which granted is normally full of ignorance is that Harley Davidson are actually in a bit of a financial issue.

Dealerships have been closing, sales have been down and stock has dropped 50%

As outlined here
There's a strong sense that Harley-Davidson, the 116-year-old American icon, is in trouble. The Milwaukee-based motorcycle manufacturer's stock is down 45% over the past five years, CEO Matt Levatich is facing a tough turnaround job, and the company has wrangled with President Trump over tariffs.

Harley is sort of in trouble. The motorcycle market is in decline in the US, perhaps terminal decline, and Harley's customer base is aging — eventually, they'll be cruising to that great biker bar in the sky, and it's unclear whether younger generations will take their place in the saddle.

For me this is somewhat of Harley going all in, I think it is far more than a Advertising Campaign it could very well be them going all in.. If they have paid a kings ransom for the traveling Duo plus substantial set up and marketing campaign post production if it does not hit home with the folks at home who knows where they will end up.

Source for quote and actually a very good article ref the bike they will use:
https://www.businessinsider.com/how-har ... ?r=US&IR=T

Will it get bums on bikes that cost 1/3 more than the current main stays in the market?, who knows. We may look back and say the same about Harley as we do with BMW and the First trip ;)

Realistically the bikes are only going to cover a 100 or so miles on a charge so I guess they'll put the bikes in the Sprinter vans with generators to charge them whilst they jump on the 2nd pair of bikes to ride another 100 miles , surely if they they try to stick to the 1st pair of bikes having to stop every 100 miles and then waiting for them to recharge they'd be quicker on foot.
