Used - because I’ll let some other mug spec the bike up for me and take the 50% depreciation hit over 2 and a half years.
Or
New, so I can thrash it senseless and still get it fixed under warranty then pass it on after 2 1/2 - 3 years to some unsuspecting Mug after the warranty expires!
Over the years I have done both, new and second hand.
I bought New a 1985 DTR 125 Yamaha purely to go to work on after owning numerous 50's, 125's, 250's including Yam's RD's.
I loved this bike and was stolen while getting the key for the garage door.
2 secondhand Tiger 955i's and years and many bikes later including a Vfr750,Gpz1100,Dr800,Cb900F
Then I had a 2006 Yam Fazer 1000 the last of the FZS models and traded for the new XT1200 super tenere, wow what a machine, yes I traded and lost circa 4k for a Tiger 955i No3,( loved and still love those ) last gen 2006, traded that for a 2012 Versys 1000 in White ugly but fast and best seat on a long miler.. cool.
Came into some money.
SO...
I test rode:
Yamaha
MT10 Ferkin fast
MT09
BMW
R1200s loved this
Gs1200
Gsa1200
Xr1000 is hard in
KTM
1090
1190 whatever
1290 fast thing
Triumph
Tiger 800
Tiger 1050 sport
Tiger 1200 and Xc
I liked most but the KTM was too long in leg for me.
1200 Explorer was the best all round for me, super fast acceleration and handling but I want a basic bike which is hard these days of electronics.
After a scour around all the local dealers I eventually came across the bike I currently own.
A 2014 Triumph Explorer Xc, with only 3000 miles in Grey it was like new and extras, at £7800 last year I think was a steal so... Secondhand..
This is just my opinion so don't flip out..

Your along time dead..
I last bought new in 2005 - a new silver BMW 1150 GS Adv for £9250 and still have it after nearly 15 years and 35k
I bought a nearly new in 2007, a 500 mile BMW G650 XChallenge at a £2500 saving
After that I haven't bought new ever again, as I have a self imposed £10k limit for a bike new or used
Now most new bikes have gone over £10k .... I don't buy them
Plenty of used bargains about
