I don't spend more than €1,000 on a bike...have 4 of them........all running nicely. Most recent one just came a few weeks ago.
Use bike and a standard list of things to do when I get them usually leaves me with a very reliable ride.
Thing about that is no depreciation. All same bikes in different styles means the spares and service items are mostly interchangeable.

Re: Did you buy your bike new or used? Why?
My CRF250 Rally was my first new bike as after my last few bikes I was looking for a decent warranty and they were too new for used ones to be around. Whilst I know that I'll take a hit if I sell it I'm planning to never sell it so it's not a concern.
And now, Harry, let us step out into the night and pursue that flighty temptress, adventure.

Life is too short to be riding around on old nails,i would maybe think different if i ever took one off road but i don't and i keep my bike immaculate, never would entertain a demo all the thrashings they receive, the only thing i don't like with new bikes is all the electronic bo--ocks,traction control and cruise control, one of my bikes has cruise control never turned it on what a waste of time, wished you had a choice of the same bike but with nothing on.

Re: Did you buy your bike new or used? Why?
Over 35 years, I've owned around 60 bikes and, of those, only four were bought new: a 1989 Harley-Davidson XL 883 Sportster, a 2006 Cagiva Raptor 1000, a 2011 Triumph Tiger 800 XC and my current 2018 Honda CRF250 Rally.
I don't think that buying new or used says anything about a person as it's up to them what they choose. For each of the new bikes that I have bought, there were reasons why I didn't buy second hand and vice versa.
I'm also not the kind of person to buy a bike just to ride on dry Sunday afternoons in the summer: I ride all year round, regardless of the weather and normally cover around 10,000 miles a year.
If it wasn't for people buying new, there wouldn't be any second-hand bikes!

Thats why secondhand is good--provided that you are patient you can find some barely used examples dating back 15 years or so--WITHOUT all the bollocks-and at a 1/10th of the price of new stuff---and in my experience quality has gone downhill in recent years on items like paint. However, Enfield have recently bucked the trend in providing excellent quality and retro (usable) style at half the price of other manufacturers. Also Honda with their Rally have proved that you can sell bucket loads all over the world if the value is there for "normal" incomes.gazxt1200z wrote: ↑Mon Apr 22, 2019 7:04 pm Life is too short to be riding around on old nails,i would maybe think different if i ever took one off road but i don't and i keep my bike immaculate, never would entertain a demo all the thrashings they receive, the only thing i don't like with new bikes is all the electronic bo--ocks,traction control and cruise control, one of my bikes has cruise control never turned it on what a waste of time, wished you had a choice of the same bike but with nothing on.

Used, because the bike I wanted had ceased production the prior year (xt660z).
Found a local one owner bike with farkles at a decent price with 28k,5 years old at around 60% of it's new price(original sales invoice included) and notice now as production has stopped they seam sought after, and with new bike prices increasing considerably folks are asking close to 75% of the original sales price of that year!
