However, thanks to this claim, my insurance quotes for the same bike have gone from about £600 per year to £1300+ a year!!! Unless I can find a cheaper quote, it's unlikely i'll be able to replace it sadly...
Does anyone have any tips or companies that offer decent insurance costs?
Well firstly, obviously, well done for getting a full pay out. But those quotes are terrible. Sounds like pure opportunism to me. The only slight compensation is the sure knowledge that all insurance agents have an especially toasty corner of hell reserved solely for them, close to the divorce lawyers and just along from Piers Morgan.

Thanks, it took a bit of negotiating but got there in the end.
haha tell me about it! What is the point of even having insurance. You pay monthly or yearly to be covered, then pay an excess if something happens to get the money back only for the premium to be more than doubled on the next one! They just have a complete hold over the customer

Sadly the reality is that you make a claim for theft you lose the excess off the claim and then the no claims goes with it.
For that reason some of us riding old bikes don't bother with making the claim. Can be cheaper to take the loss than go for the insurance pay out.

I remember years ago looking up the price of third party and the quotes I received from the same company gave it £1 dearer than fully comp

That's awful you must be gutted. Bike looked stunning as well and when it's your pride and joy its makes you really angry.
Will definitely keep an eye out and maybe an idea to check Ebay/MCN in case they try and move it on to an unsuspecting buyer!
Good luck with your insurance claim and hope you can afford a replacement soon.

That's entirely correct and what I do most of the time.
The sting in the tail now is most companies force you to a minimum of adding 'fire and theft' and of course the same rules apply......excess maybe 250 then los of bonus 400 first year 250 next year then 100 that's 1,000 and you cant go elsewhere because of a claims history.

So unfortunate mate, hope the thief is caught and brought to book. Best wishes with insurance. Don't relent it shall somehow be found. Sorry though for the awkward situation they placed you in being your very first adventure bike.

Just had a interesting conversation with my Boss - a dealer in the Yorkshire area, has started his old tricks again...
My Boss has heard 2nd hand so no where near reliable information.
Apparently the dealer or 1 of the staff is passing details of newly purchased bike to some thieving scum that nicks it. Giving a new set of keys or the original keys, because the buyer got a newly cut set, he keeps 1 set.
Bikes are ending up in Eastern Europe apparently.
