Re: Motorcycling in Russia
We didn't venture into Russia, the border was shut and if it’d been open, the price for a one day tourist visa was exorbitant.
The border between Norway and Russia
Getting here was a bigger thing to me than Nordkapp, that’s the Arctic Ocean
The border crossing to Murmansk, it was shut! This photo was taken about 12:30 at night. Soz about the orientation of the photo, I forgot to twiddle it before posting...

Re: Motorcycling in Russia
I've been to Russia on a similar route. We went in from Kirkenes and out at Alakurtti. Russia is interesting. I wrote about the trip for the magazine, it's here on my blog too.

I've ridden to NordKapp twice, the last time, this year through the Baltic countries and Finland. I toured the lake area in Southern Finland, then headed north to Ruka (winter sports resort) followed by west to Rovaniemi. I took a day off and visited the Artic Museum, which is a must, before heading north to Inari and crossing into Norway. As I was a loan traveller, I talked myself out of crossing into Russia, as there didn't appear to be a road network close enough to the Finnish border.
Before I hang up of lid for good, I'm going to return to Finland as in it's own way it is spectacular. Visit Koli for the most amazing views. I was lucky though as the weather was kind, but pay back time when I headed for Nordkapp with 45MPH winds! Worth it though.
