Gotta say that after reading MCN's write up today, I had an urge to go order one - a white & red one of course  :D

As already said, the simplicity and lack of "Tech-shite" has a certain attraction to it, which is, in part, what drew me too the bike . . . .

. . . . but then I realised that both the 600 Transalp and the F8GS in my garage have as little or less tech on them than the T7!

So I'll stick with what currently floats my boat . . . . . . at least until I've had a test ride on a T7 :D  :D

Looking forward to viewing one up close

Along with a few others here, I had a chance to have a good look over and take an escorted spin at the ABR show.

Thanks to the ABR crew for organising such an amazing range of test bikes.
Never seen anything like it.
When you've heard all the talks, bought all the gear and eaten all the gourmet burgers, all that's left is trying some cool bikes ;-)

Start an XT7 up and you can’t help grinning at that grunty CP2 motor – much less harsh than a 790R I also tried (off road only).
Best Jap motor for years.
On the easy trails and the bumpy Midlands backroads the suspension felt great.

I’ve written a detailed review here.
Summary below.

• Engine character and response – it’s perfect
• Fully adjustable, plush suspension
• Pre-load adjustment knob
• Weighs 205kg (unverified). Same as my 660Z and less than my old CB500X RR
• Flat but grippy textured seat
• Brakes feel good, road or dirt
• Brisk and agile on the road
• A display scroll button now on right bar
• 25,000-mile valve-clearance intervals
• Well set up cockpit
• Centre stand – at least an available option
• OMG – no beak!

• Is it such a bargain? Over £2k more than an MT-07
• At 16-litres, the tank could use a couple more
• Top-heavy at a standstill
• Non-adjustable screen
• Handguards are plastic
• Screw-in filler cap – a saving too far
• At 34.5″ (875 mm), stock seat too high for many
• Tall riders will need bar risers to stand comfortably, but stock risers are already long

Agree with that summary Chris
Rode it at noon today and was just so brilliant - even the screen was perfect for me at 6'2
Butter smooth motor and power delivery - fuelling was perfect
Suspension on mine was harsh but nothing a bit of dialling in won't cure
Perfect middle weight bike and loads of attention to detail, like being able to raise the front mudguard height by slackening 4 bolts and sliding it up on fork guards, for more aggressive knobblies
Tried it up to 75 mph on the road and handling was rock solid, even when cranked over a fair way
Love it
Love it

So far heard a lot of good things on this from people that made the festival. Really reassuring my blind deposit. Roll on September!!

As above re. my blind deposit put down a while ago :) As luck would have it, I'm now away for all of September, so the lovely T7 will have to wait till October unless by some unlikely stroke of good fortune it arrives sometime in August. At least the month away is being spent riding the outfit somewhere due south!
Just finished reading Chris's brief ride review...... great stuff, can't wait! :)

"I noted coming back to the Yamaha stand one normal-sized bloke struggling to manoeuvre his T7 into place; one foot in the air, the other on tiptoe."

That was probably me....

Though many others seemed to be affected...

I’m away end of Sept so hoping it comes earlier rather than later, otherwise I’ll spend 10 days holiday thinking about the bike! ImageImage

Some pics I took today of it (note the queue to register to book a ride )

Want a more aggressive knobbly?
Just undo 4 bolts and raise up the front mudguard on these 4 sliding bolts, rear of front mudguard slides up on 2 bolts too - neat eh?

Image

Fit a rear tail tidy or enduro number plate?
Remove the licence bracket (a la KTM)

Yamaha Parts 4mm Rallye bashplate v stock one

Stock pipe v Akra (you can see the Centre Stand in first pic too)

Rear seat plate & box replaces pillion seat
