That engine is brilliant in my XSR700 and well proven so there should be no worries in that department, loads of power and a flat torque curve, get a decent pipe on and they sound great as well.

It's very odd

I went to the NEC looking forward to seeing the 700 Tenere above all else, once I laid eyes on it all I could think was ..meh... that hasn't changed (yet). It looks to me like a parts bin special, a hurried design to get it out there which given the absurdly long wait for release patently isn't true.
Loved my 660 and thought it looked the mutts, this...meh.

Hope it rides nicely

However, if you are leasing then the payment is calculated on the basis of:

Ticket price -..........etc
That was my point

Well, the deed's done.... after reading some of the recent Spanish test reports, I have 'reserved' a competition white T700 on-line. I have never before bought a bike untried/untested like this, but I just know the T700 will be right for me. No modes, no traction control, no flash dash, switch-offable ABS, great price, great looks, great motor, XT500/Tenere heritage etc. etc.

Good for you Mark. Although I’m surprised you’ve gone for it untried as I know how you normally go about a bike purchase.
All that being said, I reckon that it could well be the next bike for me too, once I’m home from this trip.
No modes, no flash dash and by today’s standards an apparent bargain price.
Some have said that it look cheap and plasticky when seen at bike shows....maybe.
One thing I do know having owned a Tracer 700 for 10,000 miles is that the engine in lovely.

Keep us informed as to its delivery and how you get on.

Paul,
yes, I clearly remember you saying how good the Tracer's motor was. I think it was when we met-up at H's for a bacon sandwich shortly before you set off for Aus. TBH, there's no other new bike which interests me at all, except possibly the Enfield 650! I know there's some risk in buying un-test ridden, but on the strength of the old Tenere and the Tracer, I'm confident it will be great, at least for me. In the unlikely event it's not, you can buy it off me for a good price!

Sounds like a bike KTM should have made...I like the lack of electronic nonsense, less is more and all that.
