"Motor cycles and how to manage them" and "Motorcyclist workshop" are both books which I read as a teenager , a long time ago. They come from a world where to own a motorcycle , you had to virtually do an engineering apprentice ship. In Motorcyclists workshop, for example, there is a chapter on pipe bending, it's anything but basic. It is however from another time , when bikes had rigid frames and girder forks, how relevant it is to 2019 is open to question.

Re: Anyone know what textbooks/study material are used for m/c tech courses?
Greetings again,
Back in 1976 started the publication of a magazine called 'On Two Wheels'. There was a sister publication called 'On Four Wheels'. They had technical information pus road tests, etc.
I have just found a couple of example links to sets on sale through eBay; ( I don't know the sellers)
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1-110-ISSUES ... 0010.m2109
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/On-two-wheel ... SwoFVafu1q
The photos and cut away drawings are excellent.

"Motorcycles and how to manage them' was known as 'motorcycles and how to damage them'.
Am I right in remembering that it was written by a successful female trials rider of the 1930s?

I have 2 copies of MAHTMT one much older than the other . They are credited to "The staff of 'The Motorcycle'" so I don't know who actually wrote them , but it is certainly very old, most of the illustrations show bikes which are belt drive ( in a vintage way) and side valves are the norm .... post WW1I would say. The book was updated regularly and was still in print in the fifties .

As we were talking about learning and training, I'm guilty of sending the thread off at a tangent. I will try and pull it back.
There are copies of "motorcyclists workshop" and "motorcycles and how to manage them" on Ebay at present for 5 or 6 quid a copy , I think I would get an original copy from the mid fifties rather than some of the reprints. All the fundamentals are there in these old books , even in 2019 you are still burning petrol in a cylinder. Valve and ignition timing is just as critical today as it it ever was. Clutches still need adjustment. Wheels still have spokes and go round. You could do a lot worse than splash out ten or fifteen quid on a couple of copies of these old books .
Old copies of 'Motorcycle Mechanics' magazine, were reprinted as ' Classic Motorcycle Mechanics' were quite a good magazine, practical at least.
As for Haynes manuals , the old ones were quite good, the newer the are the less use they are.
Parts books are good , they give you an exploded diagram.

Greetings and good evening,
Richard, I think that 'Motorcycles and how to manage them' was originally a book written by an American - AJ Wilson,
https://books.google.co.uk/books/about/ ... edir_esc=y
It was re-written a number of times by the staff of the publishers of the magazine Motor Cycle, Illife. There are loads of various editions on the AbeBooks website.
The "Motor Cyclist's Workshop" was written by "Torrens" of "The Motor Cycle" and there is some information about him on the following website;
https://www.real-classic.co.uk/2017/12/ ... orcyclist/
My eyes however glaze over at his description of replacing a crankpin and its realignment, sounds easy but sooooooooooo skilled. I once spent hours trying to do the job and had to give up, took the offending parts to a specialist who gave it one smack in the correct place - job done !!!!!!!!!! Moral, some jobs best left to the experts.
Totally agree with Steve regarding parts books which I used for ohp slides having tippexed out the part numbers etc.

There are manuals & part lists for many brands, in many languages, on this Spanish site https://www.pdfmotomanual.com
downloads quickly.
Part lists can be constructed from online part catalogs but can be tedious and ensure they are manufacturer numbers not the dealers!
Use select cut & paste into Word, Powerpoint or similar, or screen print if protected and paste

CSMNL use inhouse part numbering (for Honda & ?) not manufacturers but pics are manufacturers with CSMNL watermark.
