Thinking of px my TA for a yamaha tenery 1200

Post by Thomas williams » Thu Dec 25, 2014 7:40 pm

Hiya all I'm thinking putting my transalp in for a yamaha tenery 1200. I've just got the transalp but seen this now and really like the look of the bike plus the shaft drive . Is this a good idea and should I stick to the transalp or put it in and get the tenery 1200 any info be great ? .

Both great bikes , it all depends what your needs are , so choose the one that will fit the intended use better .

As above

The S10 is a big, heavy bike ideally suited to 2 up, big distances at a good pace.

The TA is a solo rider, capable of most terrain and 70-80 cruising.

ps if the picture is yours that looks the nuts.

I see what you mean . I'll be using the TA two up . I've only done around 100 miles on it . I'm new to all this and I'm taking my first trip in August to the Alps . So I'm a bit worried that I'll need a bigger bike . It's going to be a trip over 10 days . And yes this is my transalp that is pictured :-)

Your Transalp will do your trip no problem at all.

You may wish to remove the side panel and turn up the pre load on the rear shock when caring your pillion and luggage .

I was thinking of getting the 1200 tenere but I went for the 660 as I'm aiming to do more off road playing than touring kind of riding an the advice I was given was the smaller cc big would be better an lighter off road )

Let us know how you get on buddy

August is a long way off and there's plenty of S10's about so why not have a couple of weekends away early next year and see how the Transalp handles it. An S10 with 2 people plus luggage is a heavy beast, probably over 450kg if you take 'advantage' of the extra carrying capacity and something to be considered.

For me, with respect, that is nowhere near enough mileage to form an opinion of a very good bike - so people say.

How much of the 100 miles was loaded up and two up? (thumbs)

I think you need to look at what weight you are going to carry.

Without being personal, you need to consider your own and your wife/GF,s weight and then the likely luggage (i.e camping or not).

If you are a big lad, picking up a downed S10 is fairly easy. Not if you are of small stature. (Honestly - its easier than the 660Z - see

We recently did a 40K mile trip on our S10 but we are both heavy and we carried camping gear. After upgrading the rear suspension, the bike was fine.

Prior to that we owned a 660Z which was a fantastic bike but just was not man enough to carry the weight we intended to take.
