If the OP's bike is an American bike it may not be covered by warranty in the UK in any case, so he/she could remove the canister.
I say this because my UK BMW GSA800 wasn't covered under manufacturer's warranty whilst I shipped it to America and rode it around for 8 weeks, even though the bike was only 10 months old.

Entirely correct.

I got the impression though that is wasn't an import.

In fairness to most manufacturers they do that because parts can differ significantly due to different regulations and may not be stocked. In one case that happened to me the original seller agreed to ship me the relevant parts under my warranty but to get them fitted by a local dealer. I had to pay the local dealer but warranty remained intact. I knew what I was getting into and was happy with that.

In Fairness It's all good wnen things go swimmingly, but it's how a company behaves when things go wrong , which could just be simple a mistake or oversight that can cause irritation by having a knock on effects on one's planning that makes all the difference....
