Hello Jim - these folks might be worth a try - have never stayed but it caught my eye a couple of times
Also there is a large campsite at StrandHill , just west of Sligo, beside a beach and a short walk to pubs etc

I am planning on going along with Will Crean on the Friday. I usually go up to meet him at Roscommon and have lunch and we head from there, its about a 3 hour ride for me to Wills and then another 3 hours from there to the Shepherds Rest.wideparting wrote: ↑Thu Feb 21, 2019 3:33 pm hi heff, flintlock.a couple of us might come over a day early.do you know of a decent campsite with food and a pub somewhere between, galway Sligo area. cheers jim.
I have options of going by way of Galway to Roscommon.
I know there are some nice places around there too.
Westport House if in the area has everything on site, camping, pub, food.
Take a route from Galway/Maam Cross [tea at Peacockes Hotel] /Leenane/Louisburgh/Westport some spectacular scenery on it.
Alternative route Galway/Maam Cross/Clifden/Sky Road/Leenane/Louisburgh/Westport

Sorry about he old school route maps.
I don't even own a gps or a satnav and years spent in scouts and navigating leave me mostly with an instinct for north and able to memorise maps and find my way.
Those directions are part of the Wild Atlantic Way but in Mayo you really need to do a figure of 8 to get the best of it. Maam Valley and Killary Harbour are tow great scenic routes. But........Maam Valley at certain times of day is heavily populated by some Scottish midges.
