Alun and Bryn,

Thank you for inspiring me to ride the Vercors; it really is an amazing part of France. The Combe Laval was such an iconic image on the front of the last ABR magazine that I simply had to go and search it out, the drops were scary though :shock:

I rode through the Vercors last year on my way to Gorge du Verdon after reading about it in the magazine.It was a fantastic ride but I'll have to go back and do the Combe Laval now. :)

My god. The photos in that link suggests the parapet wall is only about 750mm high.
It wouldn’t take much to topple over that!

I wouldn't disagree !

The parapet was level with my seat, I was perched above the wall with a 500' drop to my right....vertigo and the thought of the ultimate skydive of my life made sure that I kept my eyes firmly on the road :shock:

Another one on the edge of the Vercors a little North of the Laval as I remember I was there back in June. Did you go to the Resistance museum up on the plateau Paul?

I did see the signs for the museum Paul but time was against me (this time anyway) - I was based in Geneva and going out for day trips around the area; the Millau Bridge was also on my 'to do' list but that's for next time I guess as it was a bit too far from Geneva.

The main point of the trip was to do some exploring on the Somme and lay some poppies before the crowds start arriving in the next couple of weeks;
Albert down to the Haute Jura was only a day's ride.
