N.I ABR's in the Pyrenees

Post by Heff »

A group of 7 ABR's from Northern Ireland recently rode to the Pyrenees. There were 3x BMW 1200GSA's, 2x Yamaha 1200 S10's 1x Triumph 1200 Explorer and a KTM 1190 Adv.

We left Banbridge, riding south from Northern Ireland to get to our overnight ferry leaving Cork at 4pm.

We arrived in Cherbourg at around 7am the next morning, to be greeted by torrential rain. Getting off seemed to take forever, with numerous other bikes waiting to get off. Bumped into Olaf, another forum member, who would be better known on the forum as 92KKK100lt193214 who was riding his K100 - No surprise there. We eventually got off around 8:30am, which had knocked our plans back a bit, as we had 640 miles to push to get to our first hotel, in Lourdes. About 30 minutes into our first 150 mile leg, we stopped to pick up another of our group who was on another KTM 1190 Adv, so 8 bikes in total.

We had planned to ride around 2 hours, or 150 miles before stopping for fuel and more importantly, coffee.

The delay getting off the ship had screwed with our plans as we didnt get to the hotel until around 8pm, and as it was a Sunday night, there wasn't that many places open. However, the guy on reception directed us to a great restaurant. Heres what I had !

Eventually getting into our campsite on the Spanish side in Sort. This would be our H.Q for the next 6 days exploring the surrounding area. Not 5* accomodation, but competely fine for our needs, with a kitchette/dining area, bathroom with shower and 2x bedrooms, with 4 in each dorm. This allows us to leave panniers and non essential items safely behind
