Flagstaff viewpoint, Newry. Fantastic views over Carlingford Lough, the Mournes & Cooley mountains.
Directions-south on the A1-take the last exit for Newry & Warrenpoint at the roundabout take the first exit for Newry then the first road on the right after passing under the railway bridge, this is the Flagstaff road-a nice single track road. Follow to the end the entrance to the viewpoint is to the right at the junction.

Still in County Down-Bronte Interpretative Centre Church Hill, Rathfriland.
Patrick Bronte, father of the famous Bronte sisters was born & raised in this area. A nice spot beside a church and old school house-where Patrick preached & taught. Picnic tables, good parking & toilets (seasonal opening)
Again great views of the Mournes and surrounding countryside
Directions from Banbridge. Take the Castlewellan Rd, follow past Corbet Lough to T junction at the end, turn right, continue into Moneyslane & turn right at the crossroads unto the Dromora Rd towards Rathfriland, continue through Ballyroney, at the first crossroads, Church Hill is the first road on the right, just beyond the crossroads. The centre is on your left after about 150 metres.

Re: Northern Ireland..Places to stop, take in the views.
I have had a few weekends up this way, all in sunshine and perfect bike weather.
Hope I can make this one in 2016 because last 2 years it clashed with a trip to France that I am not doing this year. 2013 my bike was bruised.
Newcastle on a Sunday morning for breakfast has a lot going for it too.
My take on some of these roads is have a stove and stuff with you because the remote picnic and stopping places are like another world. Some of the camp sites are great places to just sit and enjoy too.

Looking down on Magilligan point with Greencastle across the water. My old CB1300SA in the foreground. Great memories with that bike.
