Squires to North Lincs - Sun 20th July

Post by Elle »

Short notice but tomorrow is forecast sunny and there's a couple of places I've wanted to visit for ages. If you'd like to join me or meet during the day, you're more than welcome :)

Meet at Squires from 10am, heading out at 10.30am
This will be a trundle through the back roads and suitable for all types of bikes and riders
Lunch at The Paddocks Tea Room in Alkborough (NB, cash or chq only)
Then visit Thornton Abbey and Gatehouse (english heritage: free for members or £4.60 for non-members (alternatively, relax in the picnic area which will be bathed in sunshine)

Ride back over the Humber (free for bikes) then back to Squires avoiding the M62

Approx 120 miles

I go to Squire's regularly from Scunthorpe and would recommend my route home from there

Squire's onto A63 to Monk Fryston
A63 to Selby then A1041 to Drax
A645 to Rawcliffe to Goole
A161 south out of Goole
Turn left (east) at Eastoft and take the back road through Luddington and down the bank of the Trent
At Keadby east along A18 then take the A1077 ring road and turn left onto B1430
Follow through Burton Stather to Alkborough

Julian's Bower at Alkborough is worth a stop for the view across the Flats to the Trent

Enjoy (thumbs) alas my son and girlfriend are coming for lunch so I can't join you

Hey John
Sorry you can't make it but thanks for the route. It's practically the same one I'd planned as I'm familiar with most of the roads having friends in Swinefleet.

If you get the extra time, turn right in Monk Fryston to Hillam & then left to Gateforth. A right leads to West Heddersley & then head onwards to Carlton. There's a few 30 zones but the small lanes are great (thumbs)

The turf maze was also on my list of places to see :)

So long as you stick to paved roads I would be up for a ride out Sunday. I only have the ex police pan in one piece so green lanes are not an option.

haha, yes Skipper, it's paved roads :)
I'm just about to get the bike out the garage, see you there - I'm riding a blue BMW F650GS & will have a yellow hi-viz. Apparently Suzuki are at Squires this morning so it could be busy
