Calling all riders who know Salisbury plain..a bit.

Post by Mike101 »

It's now time to start planning the ABR Salisbury plain rally in August in detail.

I'm after a little bit of help from my fellow riders on here who know the plain.

What i need are riders who can lead groups of 7 bikes in total for rides out on the Saturday. We can sort out an exact route together that wil take in all the best that can be found on the plain.

So if you are about and can help on teh Saturday pleae let me know...there might be a beer in it.

Thanks

Mike

To what extent do mean 'know'? if you men from the perspective of knowing how and where to 'dig in' or advance to contact I might be of some use...

I don't know it at all, but don't mind doing a pre ride the week before and leading a pack on the day. Got sat nav and OS memorymap on my phone and lead off in Kent. Or don't mind being a tail ender either.

Don't worry as we'll be staying away form the trenches this time!

This will be big bike rides on the simple trails taking in as much as we can. If the weather is dry we will use some of the smaller trails but not if they get too muddy.

A lot fo the people coming don;t knwo the plain and the thought of going on to military land can put some off so i just need a few guides to lead to the way.

All help is welcome.

I'm in Newbury and pretty sure I'll have knobblies on my Tiger by then. If not I'd be on the DR350. More than happy to lead or follow as required, and happy to do some route recces with you if required. PM me if you want contact details.

For the occasional ABR event I've attended, the local TRF have found someone willing to lead a ride out.

Some folk riding big bikes may be very skilled and happy on a rutted chalky track whereas another big bike rider may not be so content. So would it be better to base rides on skill rather than bike? Just a thought :)

If it helps, I can mark out & send you the trails I did last year in that area - all easy - just one section with deep narrow ruts that a boxer engine may struggle with.
