Looks good to me. Think I will also go for this one, and if they don't let me in ill head onto great langdale national trust site.

Even though there's not much call for the trail ride, ill still be going regardless. And as it is proving difficult to find a definite campsite I think we will need a meet point somewhere so that those in different campsites can get to. Leave it with me....but I recon close to the http://baysbrownfarmcampsite.co.uk/map.html campsite. On the map there's a pub called wainwrights inn. Looks a decent place to meet. Shall we say 0815 for those wanting to trail ride? Wheels rolling 0830.

No probs, some cracking passes to be had on the way to piel.

Just in case anyone wants to do the ride but is a bit worried, I will be on a 990 Adventure and I'm not going to kill a set of knobblies on the 500 mile motorway ride to the Lakes and back so will be on a TKC front and a Mefo Super Explorer rear.

However I do know the southern Lakes very well as I used to keep a caravan at Ayside (nr Newby Bridge) and then Stavely (between Kendal & Windermere) for many years, so have walked, mountain biked and driven (4x4) most of the lanes in that area and more importantly know how to bypass them, so would be happy to lead the odd "wimp out route".

Having said that a lot of the routes are rocky rather than muddy, although the beach route could be amusing!

As to the camping Baysbrown Farm (aka Thrang Farm on the map) is a bit basic, this is reflected in the price £5 a night whereas the NT site charges £12.50 a night (£15 is pre booked).

In the past I've always stayed at the NT site (further up the valley) but never booked in advance. (as above they charge extra anyway) and never had a problem (although I've always been in a car and always stayed at least two nights), they do advertise 70 "first come, first served" pitches in addition to the 150 bookable ones.

It was a lot easier in the old days (about 20 years ago) you paid for each night separately when the warden came to your tent at about 8.00am or you paid a the "hut" on your way out if you were an early riser :laugh:

June is relatively quiet in the Lakes as it tends to be a lot of retired folk visiting before the summer holidays start and they don't go in for basic camping :laugh: so Baysbrown should have plenty of room. The olds will all be in their motorhomes at the NT site :whistle:

I should have mentioned, if turning up on spec at Great Langdale Campsite, you need to be there before 7.00pm.

Actually even if you have booked, you need to be there by seven too.

There used to be a good bunkhouse at the Stickle Barn pub in Langdale but unfortunately it closed down when the pub did a couple of years ago. The NT has taken over the running of the pub but when I was there in February, the bunkhouse was still closed and up for sale (shall we have a whip round)?
