I've ridden most models of the GS that I fit on (the GSA'a are way too tall for me) from the 1100s to the last of the air/oil cooled bikes. Just don't get them personally....

I choose the GS800 for long trips where I know I'm going off Tarmac. It's a brilliant compromise for Motorway/trail/fast Tarmac. Great economy, comfort and range.....and not too heavy for me. Me too. I hate ruts. I guess it's confidence. I get better at riding them the more I do. The deep rutted logging tracks in Bulgarian woods are epic.....but I've not been there for a couple years so I'd be useless right now. I'm a rut riding God after a couple of weeks! But it's a art I quickly forge...
