Sadly so. But just goes to show that if you set off in a car you'd have plenty of bits and two more wheels than you need to get you home.

I used to think about my own mortalty based on the fact that I've only had a couple of minor bike accidents and they were 30 years ago so I must be heading for a big one. Then I noticed that once I was on the bike I never gave it another thought. Solution - ride the bike more.

Way back I use to ride everywhere in jeans, leather jacket, decent boots (not bike boots), gloves and open face helmet. When I say everwhere I mean all over Europe, US and down to Cape Town. Progressively, I've been made to feel guilty about not being all fitted out with body armour etc. I do now us...

I have a 52 litre Givi which I bought because it takes two lids. Rarely put the lids in it but it does take a lot of other crap.

It all depends if it's about the trip or the transport. When the round the world motorway is finished then the 1200GS will be the ideal bike and 3 to 4 months will be a realistic schedule.

As I said all the bikes listed are far too complicated for a rtw. There is of course some sense in everyone in the group being on the same model and many wouldn't been seen dead on the round the world circuit on anything less than a brand new beemer. I'm sure there are literally hundreds of travelle...
