Re: Midges

Without a doubt get a head net, if by some chance you don't need it, they hardly take up much space. I wouldn't wild camp without one. How to avoid getting bitten...hmm stay indoors  I haven't been up there this year but hearing ticks are particularly bad too, make sure you have a remover in yo...

Re: Who needs CE approved gear.

You dress for the slide, the only thing that personally annoys me about that is I've only come off once on the road since I started cycling aged 4 & that was due to ice on a roundabout & ironically very little abrasion as I glided like a gold medal winners curling stone. Not to infer I'm a r...

Re: Bike Rider Covid risk

It's been 15 months & change with no end in sight, it's not the virus that is so much the problem, rather the NHS unable to deal with large volumes of people ill at the same time. Imagine the scenario if the 100 billion pissed up the wall on track & trace had been spent say on... improving ...

Re: Bike Rider Covid risk

Can you not just sell your ticket on here ? Not as easy as it seems. My Early Bird £69 ticket, still no takers not even an offer. tom There's dozens of people on UK Adventure riders asking for tickets, admittedly most of them seem to want VIP thursday Sanqhar, mine went in a couple of hours the oth...

Re: locals want to withdraw from NC500

I wonder how many bikes & motorhomes will be making their way up to Scotland once Europe is opened again though, living on the south coast I can be in Grenoble in a similar timeframe to Inverness. The highlands are glorious and have been there many times, but pre 2020 it was hardly Cornwall in A...

Re: Double camp bed.

Yeah, I've had numerous cheap and very expensive airbeds over the decades, they always fail in the end. I'm considering just getting a small double mattress to be honest. Have a look at the Alpkit Double Dozer just in case that ticks the relevant box, the Dozer is pretty comfy, I have a single for ...

Re: very sad

It's a reminder that even somewhere as densely populated as the UK, once you leave the road you're unlikely to be noticed (hence wild camping being possible). I would always give a route plan & eta when hiking in the boonies but I've never even considered that riding (possibly because I rarely f...

Re: Michelin Anakee Adventure advice needed

As long as you're not planning on any mud wallowing, I've been more than happy with Avon trail riders on my GP450 SM wheels. Excellent on tarmac & more than fine on hardpack /gravel / dry grass etc. I wouldn't recommend in anything gloopy but then I wouldn't recommend a novice taking an 800GS in...
