Re: What do you need for the RTW ride

Oy! 1200GS riders seem to have taken my OP as me trying to give advice. Well I did use 'personally' and 'for me' to make it clear it was just an opinion. I, like most, haven't got the first idea what the best/most favoured bike is for a RTW trip which is why I started a thread to DISCUSS various ide...

Re: What do you need for the RTW ride

You need a lot of extra 'will' and a bit less budget to ride around the world on a 90cc bike.

Re: What do you need for the RTW ride

Yes, I agree that when on any kind of long distance tour to remote locations you need to treat the bike with a little more respect than you may do when thrashing around in the Alps. We met a couple of lads in Namibia who had the latest BMWs supplied by the factory as their Father worked there. On th...

What do you need for the RTW ride

with all the stuff I read about Nick Sanders riding round the world on an R1 (and no support) just to prove a point and C&E with their hi-tech bikes and 3 4x4s as back up, it has got me thinking about what do you really need for a RTW trip. Personally, I think a DR350 is working too hard, obviou...

Re: Charlie boorman

If you embark on anything like the LWR/LWD trips with all the support and film stuff you're bound to get a few knockers. I think they're both worthy blokes. Charley is not the best actor in the world and has used his passion for bikes to get himself a new career as a 'celebrity' biker and he does do...

Re: Am I in the wrong Pigeon Hole.

The southern Europeans don't seem to have much in the way of self preservation instints, sunglasses being the most important piece of safety kit. I'm like you, can't bring myself to ride in flip flops but I always wear gloves - just habit, I guess. Back on the original point, I'm pretty anti pigeon ...

Re: Am I in the wrong Pigeon Hole.

Thanks for the replies - this really is a nice friendly forum, long may it last! We'll all subject to the pressures of marketing, even I've been persuaded to try an 1150GS for 3 years and I'm now on my second KTM. Trying to convince my 18 year old son that there is a world outside of an Apple I phon...

Am I in the wrong Pigeon Hole.

It is 20 years ago this year that we (me and wifey) set off from the UK on our R100GS and spent a year travelling down to Cape Town, via Egypt and the east coast then through Zimbabwe, Botswana and Namibia. All the modifications to the bike including all the luggage were entirely home made, there wa...
