Re: Questions about restoring/making an off-road bike, road legal.

Mad Cow wrote:I had something similar last week when I trailered it to the MOT (no tax) but realised I forgotten to put a mirror back on. Tester said it is a legal requirement on the road (i'm not sure - see below) but not for the test, same as a speedo.
Your right, you don't need mirrors for the test :)

Re: Puncture repair kit - what do I need?

...... I used stuff called "Goop" in my tubed tyres for about 8000 miles, never had a puncture that I was aware of, never had any problems with adjusting the tyre pressures, and no problems when changing the tyres and tubes (although I did warn the guy doing the work before he started). H...

Re: Questions about restoring/making an off-road bike, road legal.

Before you buy, make sure you can trace the Provenance of the bike, if its had a V5c in the past it shouldn't be to hard to get a new one from the DVLA, if its an import or a full on crosser, them that's a whole different ball game. As for the MOT, just about all you need is a bell, and if you elect...

Re: Puncture repair kit - what do I need?

What size tyres levers do you guys use? When at home in your garage is it just a case of the biggest you can get while out on the trail its a case of smaller/ multifunctional ones? (seen ones that double as spanners) I use 12 inch levers in the workshop ( 2 straight 1 crescent/ curved ), and out on...

Re: Puncture repair kit - what do I need?

Has anyone tried the aerosol foam stuff, i bought some but never, so far had to use it. Imho, only to be used as a last resort, as its a bugger to get the tyre off, and your speed if highly reduced, and for tubeless you have to throw the tyre, where you may have been able to repair . just my opinion...

Re: Puncture repair kit - what do I need?

Great advice, I use three tyre leavers, one to lock the bead and work your way around, but never grab more than 4 fingers distance as you move the leavers around, so with one at your 12 o'clock and then the other two going clockwise, as you pull the leavers over, the middle one will become lose, whi...

Re: Practise packing ........ am i gonna get pulled by the old bill !!

Looks fine to me, just need to tuck those bag ties in or they will flap around in the wind and as well as being annoying, it will fray, would also suggest that where you have bungees going over your paintwork, put something in between to save the paint, ( not gaffer tape ), but the load itself ...

A old Honda 600r or the Dominator, plenty around and will do most things you want, with the added benefit of being able to tow your mates out of the mud
