Re: France has made CE Gloves compulsory

I've never been able to ride a bike without gloves, just doesn't feel right. The French are big into labels so if anyone did check they would be looking for the label not thebrand or the quality. You may risk being pulled if you're not wearing any gloves but assuming you are wearing something (wooll...

Re: France has made CE Gloves compulsory

This law came in last year. With regard to the CE approval, I think this is only a recommendation and you would think that you could only buy CE approved gloves in bike shops, which is not the case. But then 2 pin sockets outlets are outlawed here but still readily available. My son was not allowed ...

Re: What are big Adventure bikes for?

Just completed Vibraction Off-Road routes RB1 & RB2 on my R1200gs Rallye with 2 mates on R1200GS Adv. 350km off-road, 3500km in total door to door. Big Bikes RULE (thumbs) https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4287/35512799380_0e7a260499_m.jpg https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4205/35091491993_342b6e8621...

Re: What are big Adventure bikes for?

Everyone to their own. I like older bikes because of the simplicity but don't enjoy breaking down as that would mean that I hadn't prepared the bike properly. I would be equally frustrated if in the event of a breakdown I didn't have the parts or ability to fix it at the roadside. I don't own an adv...

Re: Let's talk tyres

E 09 rear nd MT21 front work for me on most bikes that I've tried them on. I've found thesetyres work well even on wet trails. Dakar E 09is more slippery on wet roads. All these sort of tyres lose grip off road once the blocks round of.

Re: The mythical low maintenance trail bike.

Just been doing some work on the 690, Aiming to get it back to pretty much standard spec. just to remind myself how it was when I first had it. Most of the trail mods. make it less road friendly, so I'm going back to a 15T front sprocket, removing the Rox risers and refitting the plastic sump guard ...

Re: What are big Adventure bikes for?

This word 'adventure' creeps into every aspect of life these days. BMW and KTM were pretty quick to jump on the bandwagon. There are loads of videos out there showing top notch riders apparently riding these tanks as if they are 250cc motocrossers but for the rest of us they are just upright touring...

Re: What are big Adventure bikes for?

I'd take my R100GS over my 690 on a trip like that simply because it has a better seat and a bit more wind protection. The GS has done the UK to SA trip and coped with the dirt roads reasonably well - touring not off-roading as we were 2 up with 90kg of kit. If I was to head off to Africa again I pr...

Re: What are big Adventure bikes for?

Great touring bikes but, whilst better than a fireblade on seriously potholed stuff, a 250 would be better still. Big GS's have good load carrying capacity and, if the modern ones were less complex they'd make good overland/RTW bikes but still a pig on unsurfaced or badly surfaced roads (African Mot...
