Re: MCN - Tenere 700 v KTM 790 Adventure R

I've not ridden the 790 but I'm sure it's a nicer bike than the T700, I have ridden the T 700 and it's a nice bike, my wife liked it enough to buy one, she wanted a lighter bike than her old AT but no more power and the T700 fit the bill. She did wonder about a 790 but I'm afraid KTM needs to addres...

Re: viewranger subscrition ?

I don't use the subscription (other than last year for French maps) I just buy the maps tiles as I need them, you buy a number of points and each tile costs a number of points, this way you always own the tiles. Or you can use the subscription and have the whole of the UK. I think of it like buying ...

Admittedly high winds are a bit of an issue...chasing after the next page, No, no Steve. That was me forwarding parts of the map to you even as we were riding along. Classic :D I've just realised the photo is pre face lift with the red plastics, you're well ahead of your time Dave, get some ready f...

Re: viewranger topo maps france, spain info required

You're all getting it wrong. Here you can see my set-up (set to North-up of course). High visibility and very easy to read. I know it's difficult to understand all the technical detail behind this navigation system, but I'm sure there are post-graduate degree courses you could join to grasp the bas...

Re: viewranger topo maps france, spain info required

I used viewranger last year while in france and had the subscription to the IGN maps but it was a bit of a pain having to have a signal all the time.
You can download an area I think, I didn't as I was going to Spain, and you can plot a route and import a gpx into viewranger.

Re: Opinions on SW Motech pannier system

I think we'll go with the SW system, the rack is slightly different now but does the same job and it'll be taken off and stored inside when we're not touring. The downside to the SW system is there isn't as many options for second hand boxes available but when you're buying the whole lot that doesn'...

Re: Opinions on SW Motech pannier system

Good to hear, Alison wanted a lighter bike than her AT so my thinking was to then add the extra weight of pannier frames permanently to the bike kind of defeats the object.

Opinions on SW Motech pannier system

My wife is getting a new bike so she's looking at panniers to fit it, I like the look of the SW Motech system with the quick release frame, having the ability to remove the frames while they're not in use has a lot of benefits such as weight and making the bike narrower. Has anyone used them? Do the...

Re: Huskie 701 LR

On the standard 701 you can easily do 120-130 trail riding miles and have 3+ltrs left, road only I generally fill up at 150-160 miles and the warning light isn't on (yes I'm very light on the throttle). For most of Europe that's plenty, once you're out of these areas I'd guess having the ability to ...
