The reason I mention a badly made connection is that this issue came up the other day on an ST forum and it was a connection point underneath the tank that feeds the ignition area which caused a very similar issue with flickering neutral light and cut outs/no power.

Since you have had the bike apart it sounds like you have a bad earth connection somewhere or a lose adaptor plug

I had it coming over the hills near Buxton the other week on a BMW K1600.All you can do is slow down,try to relax :woohoo: and as suggested look for obvious places where gusts will hit you.Tucking in behind a large wagon will help if theres any about as it will assist sheilding you from frontal assa...
