I know it's not Google maps with the traffic updates but GAIA GPs app can easily show GPX routes and is Android Auto compatible if that's a consideration for you. I found I could import GPX into my Google maps account and see them on my phone but the Android Auto wouldn't show the track whereas GAIA...
