Re: Is this a bit tight? Or is it just me?
I get it. It's not the cost, it's the attitude behind it. If you're spending £10K on a bike and regularly £500 on servicing/parts per year, what's £2.50 to BMW. You want (and I think deserve) a bit of recognition and to feel "valued" as a customer, not a "cash cow". This sort of ...

Re: There's something wrong with the starter or or the top end
I'm not familiar with this particular engine, but certainly on old British bikes if there is a problem with crankcase breathing (basically removing gasses and vapours from underneath the piston) huge oily smoke finds its way out of anywhere as pressure builds. Just a though, good luck

Strikes me as tight charging you for 3 6mm bolts in the first place. Especially if you are known to them. Mind you I once got charged for a photocopy of a cooling system arrangement by a Honda dealer  Nothing's free. Were the bolts a special design that you needed to get them from BMW and not...

Re: Start Renovating a bike
I've renovated plenty of old bikes and cars in my time. Here's what I'd suggest (just my opinions of course): - 1. Make sure you have somewhere to do the work. You'll need room to work on it and room to store it in bits while you're doing the work. 2. For a first timer, get a project that's complete...

Re: My Favorite Gadgets that work, whats yours ?
1. Heated grips! Out yesterday in freezing fog and felt nothing. How did we survive without them. 2. Camping towel. What a space saver; folds to the size of a (ok big) sausage roll but is big enough to dry a burly bloke like me, and dries quickly in fresh air. 3. Tank bag. I was amazed how useful th...

Some years ago we stopped at Quiet Site close to Ullswater. Had its own bar with open fire; very cosy, very relaxing. Site was ok too, but a bit expensive. It's still there winning awards but don't know if the bar arrangement survives

Re: bmw 800 or yam 660
I've heard the Tigers are heavy and thirsty (a bit like my good self :) ). I'm also a bit put off by the accesibility of the engine (ie tank off for plug changes etc). I had a Sprint and found it a pain during maintenance/fault finding. One "fault" ended up being because I turned the ignit...

Re: paper license still legal?
Speeding convictions are only valid for 3 years after which the points go away. However, insurance companies ask for convictions over the previous 5 years (because they can).

Re: bmw 800 or yam 660
The 660 engine is completely gutless especially with a headwind/motorway ride. After 25K on mine I can't take it any more so I'm going for a bigger engine. Also a missfiring cylender on a single is catastrophic (happened a lot in the wet and I could never find the reason so carried WD40). With a twi...
