Re: Solo touring and off road (e.g. tet), small ADV bike suggestions

Looking at your list i’ve taken an XT660z solo through Africa and could pick it up.....just. I’ve also done a bunch of trails on it and it’s pretty good. I like it as a travel bike. That said, if I wanted a trail riding bike I could travel a bit with (rather than a travel bike i could trail ride a ...

Re: Solo touring and off road (e.g. tet), small ADV bike suggestions

Crf 250 Rally for me (6'1" 13.0 stone). It carried me up the length of France last year, and all over the place in the UK last year, with around 11,500 miles in total. This year it's off to Germany for a fortnight in June (dambuster tour and Black Forest) and over to the Dolomites via Switzerl...

Re: Solo touring and off road (e.g. tet), small ADV bike suggestions

A friend and I had a similar question and, over the last 3 or 4 months of test rides and deliberating, ended up getting a pair of CRF250 Rallys. Our choice of bikes was virtually identical to yours: Yamaha XT660Z Ténéré, Royal Enfield Himalayan, Kawasaki X300 Versys and SWM 650. Mike loved the Téné...

Re: Solo touring and off road (e.g. tet), small ADV bike suggestions

Might be crazy but just look on tet Facebook page and see what everyone is using :o .....basically every type of bike available....riding solo as a novice isn't recommended but then as babies we learnt to walk alone okay  Thanks for the response... I do have a friend who may come as well, but...

Re: Solo touring and off road (e.g. tet), small ADV bike suggestions

To be fair to the 250 CRF it's only called underpowered by the same people that class the AT as the same. I've ridden mine to Cornwall, Cumbria & Wales a few times from London & there's people travelling the world on them. It will comfortably chug along at 60mph with spare for overtakes, li...

Re: Solo touring and off road (e.g. tet), small ADV bike suggestions

I've had the Tenere and it was great, excellent on the road and in capable hands (not me) it will do everything most sane people would want. Loved it and would have another. I've currently got the Himalayan and it does everything the Tenere did but at a slower pace whilst giving much better fuel ec...

Re: Solo touring and off road (e.g. tet), small ADV bike suggestions

Something comfortable. I rode the Pyrenees on my CCM450, which was excellent. However, they don't suit everyone. Previously I had a TTR 250 which would also be fine, especially if you are happy pottering along when on the black stuff. I did half of my trip solo. You need to bare in mind that many o...

Re: Solo touring and off road (e.g. tet), small ADV bike suggestions

I have a rally, I did a 2000 mile tour of the black forest last year with full camping gear including a 500 mile day. I got it specifically for the TET. I did a £130 ecu upgrade which added a bit of motorway power but it was fine before. Tank range is a bit less than you want... There is no perfect...

Solo touring and off road (e.g. tet), small ADV bike suggestions

All, my first post on ABR, so please be gentle! Currently have an Africa Twin, which I have done some simple off-roading on (local green lanes, Salisbury plain etc.), and also toured on it (usual trips across the channel and to the Swiss Alps). Overall, I have found the bike great, but… that has bee...
